AARP boosts Iowa presence

By Jeffrey Young - 03/26/07 02:48 PM ET
The AARP, already an electoral powerhouse, is looking to bolster its influence starting with a series of events this week in Iowa.

The senior citizens’ group plans to adopt a more aggressive strategy than ever during the 2008 presidential campaign and has made plain it will use its organizational might to pressure candidates to take stands on issues such as Social Security reform and healthcare costs.

The AARP will roll out the group’s “Divided We Fail” campaign on Wednesday in Des Moines, and in Cedar Rapids and Davenport on Thursday. The campaign will expand to other key states through the November election.
