Wulsin to challenge Schmidt in ’08

By Klaus Marre - 04/16/07 09:08 AM ET
Victoria Wulsin, whose effort to unseat Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Ohio) fell short by fewer than 3,000 votes last year, announced Monday she would challenge the second-term GOP lawmaker again in 2008.

When Americans are fighting in Iraq, going without affordable healthcare and struggling to support their families, we need an independent voice in Congress, not a rubber-stamp for special interests and the Bush administration,” Wulsin said.

Though her district is solidly Republican, Schmidt has struggled in her two campaigns, and Democrats and Republicans alike believe she is vulnerable again in 2008.

Wulsin is a doctor who nearly added to the Democratic gains in 2006.

She pledged to bring “integrity” back to the district.

The people of the Second District deserve a Congresswoman who will be honest with her constituents,” Wulsin said.
