FL-13 task force to vote today on whether to investigate

The task force designated to look into the contested election in Florida’s 13th district will meet today to decide whether to move forward with an investigation or to dismiss the case.

Chairman Charles Gonzalez (D-Texas) and panel members Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) and Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) will vote on whether an investigation is warranted in Democrat Christine Jennings’s contest of the election victory of Rep. Vern Buchanan (R).

Buchanan was certified the winner by 369 votes, but Jennings has alleged voting-machine malfunctions and is seeking the secret software codes needed to test the machines. In Sarasota County, 18,000 voters failed to record votes in the House race, an abnormally high number.

The task force, formed in late March, met with lawyers for each side in recent weeks. It is not clear whether the task force will take any further action today if it decides to move forward.
