Pelosi’s election-related moves/quotes from 2004, 2006 and 2008

Prior to 2004 election:
Pelosi: “I put my credibility on the line here. John Kerry will be the next president of the United States.”
 
 

 

After the 2004 election when the GOP retained the White House and increased its congressional majorities:
Pelosi: “I did put my credibility on the line in terms of the election of John Kerry. I’m still stunned by that defeat.”

Pelosi: “Well, last night was not a good night for Democrats. We have a clear agenda that, for us in the House, may be easier to present in a non-presidential year.”

Before the 2008 election

After the 2008 election in which Democrats won the White House and bolstered their House, Senate majorities:
Pelosi: “Two years and two days ago, we had 203 Democrats in [the House]." Democrats now have 256 Democrats in the lower chamber.
