Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum (R) accused Vice President Joe Biden of playing the “race card” during a speech last week where he told a mixed-race audience GOP economic policies would “put y’all back in chains.”

Santorum, who waged a tough fight against Romney during the primaries, was eager for a prominent role in Tampa.

Santorum strategist warns conservatives would be “quite disturbed” if Rick Santorum is not given a prominent role. 

Santorum helped open a Pennsylvania campaign office for Romney and urged conservatives to "rally behind" the presumptive nominee.

Santorum said Romney should be cautious to not sound "like he’s hostile to Latinos."

“He understands the importance of family for our culture," Santorum said at the Faith and Freedom Conference Saturday.

Rick Santorum has not spoken directly with Mitt Romney since endorsing him in early May, he said Monday.

Santorum, asked by conservative radio show host Laura Ingraham how many conversations he's had with Romney since his endorsement, said, "None.

Rick Santorum defended his decision to announce his support for Mitt Romney in a late-night email, a move many derided as a lukewarm endorsement of the presumptive GOP nominee.

"We both agree that President Obama must be defeated," said Santorum in an email to supporters Monday.

A leading strategist for Rick Santorum's shuttered presidential campaign said negotiations were under way for Mitt Romney, the presumptive Republican nominee, to meet with the former Pennsylvania senator in the coming weeks to discuss the possibility of an endorsement.
