Dems fear another security breach in Salahi e-mails

By Kevin Bogardus - 12/03/09 01:00 PM ET

House Democrats pointed to leaked e-mails from Tareq and Michaele Salahi as evidence of another potential security breach stemming from their crashing of the White House state dinner last week.

At the House Homeland Security Committee hearing examining the incident, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) submitted into the record the e-mails that detail the Salahis' attempt to earn an invitation. She said that one e-mail from Tareq Salahi listing individuals who were invited to attend the dinner but did not plan to go, such as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), could constitute another security breach.

Asked where the Salahis got the information, Mark Sullivan, director of the U.S. Secret Service, said he did not know.

"Congresswoman, I don't know where they got that information," Sullivan said.

Other Democrats expressed concerns about the e-mails as well.

"I think the revelation in the e-mail requires us to do a very thorough investigation," Rep. Chris Carney (D-Pa.) said. "That was extremely frightening to me."
