NFIB endorses Sen. Ben Nelson

By Bob Cusack - 05/30/06 08:00 PM ET

A major business group yesterday endorsed Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) in his reelection bid this year.

In a statement, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) lauded Nelson for his "support for affordable healthcare, lower taxes and full repeal of the death tax."

Nelson received the backing from NFIB/Nebraska State Director Robert Hallstrom during tours of NFIB members' businesses in Omaha and Lincoln.

Hallstrom said, "NFIB/Nebraska and its members have an excellent relationship with Senator Nelson, and we know that he always keeps the interests and concerns of Nebraska's small-business owners in mind in Washington, D.C."

Republicans are hoping to knock off Nelson this November, but the senator is considered the favorite in his race against former Ameritrade executive Pete Ricketts.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce endorsed Nelson earlier this year.
