Slaughter seeks HUD info on limo contract

05/10/06 08:00 PM ET

Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) asked the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) yesterday to release any records relating to its contract with Shirlington Limousine and Transportation, the company tied up in the “poker and prostitutes” scandal.

“I am concerned that a HUD contract has been awarded to a company allegedly involved in illicit activities including bribery, gambling, and prostitution,” Slaughter wrote.

Lawyers for the company have denied allegations that the company, at the direction of California defense contractor Brent Wilkes, provided prostitutes to attend poker parties at the Watergate that reportedly were also attended by ex-Rep. Duke Cunningham (R-Calif.) or other members.

The limo company had a $25 million contract with the Department of Homeland Security in addition to a contract with HUD valued at almost $520,000.
