Wamp's wife fragile but out of hospital

By Betsy Rothstein - 02/15/06 08:00 PM ET

Rep. Zach Wamp (R-Tenn.) brought his wife, Kim, home from a Chattanooga, Tenn., hospital yesterday after an 11-day stay. She was in the intensive-care unit for eight days with a serious infection caused by a kidney stone.

Wamp said yesterday that he is caring for her and will not return to Washington until after the Presidents Day recess.

“She is still very fragile, very tender, but thankfully she’s alive,” Wamp said, explaining that his wife had a full bacterial infection in her bloodstream and organ failure. “Thankfully an incredible trauma team helped save her life.”

Wamp said prayers from members of Congress meant a lot. “[People] have been so thoughtful and kind,” he said, citing calls and flowers.
