Former CMS official tapped to be GAO Director of Healthcare

The Government Accountability Office last week announced that a former Medicare policymaker will become its new director of healthcare. In her new role, Kathleen King will be overseeing the GAO Healthcare Team and focusing on issues related health insurance, Medicare and Medicaid.

The Government Accountability Office last week announced that a former Medicare policymaker will become its new director of healthcare.

In her new role, Kathleen King will be overseeing the GAO Healthcare Team and focusing on issues related health insurance, Medicare and Medicaid.

"We had several vacancies on our healthcare team," GAO Public Affairs Director Paul Anderson said, "and Ms. King has a broad and very deep policy background on the key issues that our healthcare team works on."

King comes to the GAO from the National Academy of Social Insurance, where she was vice president of health policy. King also has been vice president of the Washington Business Group on Health had worked at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

While at CMS from 1995 and 2000, she worked as executive assistant to the administrator and executive associate to the administrator. Her background also includes time on Capitol Hill, where she served as a Democratic staff member on the Senate Finance Committee.
