Obey pushes back deadline

House Appropriations Chairman David Obey (D-Wis.) agreed to allow members to file earmark requests with the panel until late April, according to a letter sent Tuesday to ranking member Jerry Lewis (R- Calif.).

“I have been very reluctant to extend the submission deadline for earmark requests because it complicates our ability to draft and consider bills in a timely fashion,” Obey wrote. “However in light of the questions that you and others have raised, I have decided to extend the deadline to April 27th.”

The ethics committee was expected to release guidance to clarify language in the ethics package Tuesday; such guidance had not been released publicly as of press time yesterday.
