Rep. Lampson undergoes heart bypass surgery

Rep. Nick Lampson (D-Texas) underwent successful quadruple bypass heart surgery on Sunday.

Physicians at the National Naval Medical Center detected irregularities during a checkup Friday afternoon. After a follow-up evaluation at the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston, Lampson decided to have surgery as jointly recommended by physicians in Texas and Washington, D.C.

The surgery was a success, and Lampson will remain in observation at the hospital for several days.

“Though this was a serious procedure, Congressman Lampson has his family with him, his spirits are high, and he looks forward to returning to his office and serving his constituents as quickly as possible,” spokesman Bobby Zafarnia said in a statement.

Lampson will need three to four weeks in Houston to recover before returning to work.
