McCrery joins Capitol Counsel

By Jim Snyder - 12/11/08 01:40 PM ET

House Ways & Means Committee ranking member Jim McCrery (R-La.) is joining Capitol Counsel, a lobbying firm now dominated by Democrats that specializes in tax policy.

The hire represents a contrast to the recent trend of firms and companies frantically hiring Democrats to their lobbying teams to account for the party’s recent electoral successes. Democrats next year will control the White House and both chambers of Congress.

Capitol Counsel, founded by Democratic lobbyist John Raffaelli, now counts 10 Democrats and one Republican. McCrery will be the second GOPer at the firm.

Rafaelli said McCrery will bring more “balance” to the firm.

“While Capitol Counsel has had a distinct Democratic tilt since its inception, the addition of Jim McCrery will give the firm plenty of firepower to reach both sides of the aisle.”

McCrery did not run for reelection in November. He will join the firm as partner at the conclusion of the 110th Congress.
