But Marty Russo, the firm’s CEO and a former Democratic congressman, said hiring Blunt reflected the “new spirit of post-partisanship” in Washington.

Cassidy has had close ties to the Blunt family for several years. The firm’s vice chairman and chief operating officer, Gregg Hartley, was a longtime staffer to Roy Blunt.

The younger Blunt was elected the 54th governor of Missouri on Nov. 2, 2004. He previously served as secretary of state and was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives. He is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy.
