Healthcare, election fallout to be on the Sunday shows

By Eric Zimmermann - 11/07/09 09:29 AM ET

Healthcare reform and the aftershocks of Tuesday's elections will dominate the Sunday airwaves this weekend.

The chairmen of the DNC and RNC will face off on ABC's "This Week," each undoubtedly arguing that their party is in good shape heading into 2010. Tim Kaine will point to his party's victory in the NY-23 special election, while Michael Steele should emphasize gubernatorial victories in New Jersey and Kaine's home state of Virgina.

The Governor-elect of Virginia, Bob McDonnell (R) ,will take a victory lap on Fox News to discuss his convincing 18 percent victory over Democrat Creigh Deeds. Meanwhile, Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, will tout his organization's victories in CA-10 and NY-23.

Two prominent governors will square off on "Meet The Press." Gov. Haley Barbour (R-Miss.), chairman of the Republican Governors Association, will tout the successful campaigns of McDonnell and Chris Christie. Gov. Ed Rendell (D-Pa.) will try to point to bright spots for his party in an election where they lost two governor's mansions.

Finally, healthcare reform will take center stage on "Face The Nation." Former Rep. Dick Armey (R-Tex.), who now leads the conservative activist group Freedom Works, will make the case against Democratic healthcare reform, which by Sunday morning may have already been voted on in the House. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), who's taken on a prominent role defending her party's legislation, will defend the $1.2 trillion bill.

Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) will try to explain away his party's defeat in New Jersey and perhaps preview the healthcare debate in the Senate.
