Reid riffs to reporter: 'That’s a clown question, bro'

By Alexander Bolton - 06/19/12 03:19 PM ET

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) channeled Nationals star and Las Vegas native Bryce Harper at his press conference Tuesday.

Asked by a reporter to respond to the fact that Senate Republicans are waiting for Mitt Romney to take the lead on the charged issue of immigration reform, Reid said, “I don’t want to answer that question, that’s a clown question, bro.”

The quip, modeled on one Harper gave to a Canadian reporter last week, elicited a burst of laughter from the press gaggle packed around Reid’s podium.

Harper rebuffed a reporter who asked him about his favorite beer by saying, “I’m not answering that. That’s a clown question, bro.”

The reporter had pressed Harper, who is 19, on whether he would take advantage of Canada's drinking law, which allows people under the age of 21 to imbibe, during his road trip.

Reid loves invoking Harper’s name at press conferences to bash conservative anti-tax activist Grover Norquist — and did so again Tuesday.

“All of you should know that the most powerful man in Washington would be visiting Congress this coming Thursday. And it's not Bryce Harper. It's Grover Norquist. He's decided to come up here [in] all of his regalia and talk to the Republicans,” Reid said.
