Sen. Harry Reid’s wife and daughter injured in collision with semi
Sen. Harry Reid’s wife and daughter were hurt in a car accident Thursday and were taken to a Washington-area hospital for treatment.
Reid’s (D-Nev.) wife, Landra, age 69, and daughter Lana Reid-Barringer, 48, were involved in a car accident in Virginia. Reid spokesman Jon Summers confirmed the accident in a statement.
Lana received lacerations to the face.
“While driving on a Washington, D.C., highway, their vehicle was rear-ended by a semi-truck,” Summers said.
“Both Mrs. Reid and Lana are conscious, can feel their extremities, and according to doctors their injuries are non-life-threatening,” he added.
The Washington Post reported that Reid's wife and daughter were
driving north on I-95 in a 2005 Honda Odyssey
van in stop-and-go traffic when Reid-Barringer began to stop for
traffic. A tractor-trailer loaded with rolls of plastic
behind her did not stop and pushed the van into another car. That car in turn hit a third car. Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said the van was crushed on both ends.
Both Reid-Barringer and Reid were wearing seatbelts and were transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, the Post reported. The driver of a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the driver of a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, also involved in the crash, were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Sen. Reid traveled to the hospital Thursday afternoon and “appreciates the support he and his family are receiving from Nevadans and his colleagues in the Senate,” according to the spokesman.
