Former Vice President Cheney makes surprise appearance in Capitol

By Andrew Restuccia - 11/29/11 05:25 PM ET

Former Vice President Dick Cheney dropped by Senate Republicans’ weekly caucus lunch Tuesday in the Capitol.

Cheney was invited by Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander, the Republican Conference chairman, to attend the weekly GOP lunch, where senators discuss pending policy issues.

“Vice President Cheney and I are longtime friends and I asked him to join us at a lunch where for eight years he sat with us as President of the Senate,” Alexander said Tuesday in a statement.

Cheney often attended the Republican Caucus lunches during his time as vice president.

After the lunch, Cheney left the Capitol without taking questions from reporters.
