House Democrats believe the president has done a good job "stabilizing" three controversies that could threaten their 2014 prospects. 

 “I keep saying you’re not going to like my answer. We’re meeting," the California Democrat told The Hill. 

House Republicans say they will not overreach on probing the Obama administration, having learned lessons during the Clinton administration.

Lawmakers said they would meet again next week to put the finishing touches on the legislative text. 

The lawmakers suggest that authorities have neglected such protections at the expense of workers' lives.

Negotiators will meet Thursday night to discuss the last remaining sticking point: healthcare.

The scandal underscores the need for Congress to minimize the role of money in politics, the House minority leader said.

“Nothing dissolves the bonds between the people and their government like the arrogance of power," Boehner said.

The Speaker said he is "concerned" that a bipartisan group of House members is at an impasse over legislation. 

The effort might be on the verge of failure after more than four years of secretive talks.
