Liberal Democrats are all over the map when it comes to Syria.

Speaker John Boehner said Tuesday that he will adhere to the “Hastert Rule” on immigration reform.

The plots included a previously undisclosed plan to blow up the New York Stock Exchange, Gen. Keith Alexander said.

Legislation before the Judiciary Committee to beef up immigration enforcement triggered heated debate among Republicans and Democrats. 

The Democratic whip predicted that those with their eyes on the White House would pressure leaders to swallow comprehensive reforms.

Boehner said he wouldn't bring a bill to the floor that "doesn't have a majority support of Republicans."

Demonstrators interrupted and briefly delayed the start of the House Judiciary Committee’s first markup of immigration legislation, a bill backed by conservatives and strongly opposed by Democrats.

Immediately after Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) gaveled open the meeting, about a dozen activists in the room stood and began chanting loudly, “Shame! Shame! Shame! Stop the pain!”

Goodlatte and the top Democrat on the committee, Rep. John Conyers Jr. (Mich.), urged the protesters to be quiet, but the commotion spread to the corridors outside the hearing room, where dozens of activists began their own chant of “Si se puede!”

Durbin is readying legislation aimed at pressuring the gun lobby to endorse the confirmation of a permanent ATF director. 

The California Republican said a vote on immigration reform without a Republican majority would be a “betrayal” of the GOP.
