Bush calls Mukasey after collapse
Posted: 11/21/08 09:14 AM [ET]

The White House said Friday morning that President Bush called Attorney General Michael Mukasey to check on his condition after Mukasey collapsed while giving a speech Thursday night.

White House press secretary Dana Perino e-mailed reporters early Friday to say the president had spoken to Mukasey before 7 a.m., and she said the attorney general "sounded well and is getting excellent care."

Mukasey, 67, was caught by men on stage after he started slurring his words and began to collapse during a speech at a black-tie dinner for the Federalist Society, The Associated Press reported.

Also Friday morning, Bush signed into law a bill approved by the Senate Thursday that extends unemployment benefits.
