Bush says Pelosi’s visit sends mixed signals to Syria |

President Bush Tuesday called House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) visit to Syria “counterproductive.” Pelosi arrived in Syria Tuesday as part of a congressional tour of the Middle East. But Bush said the visit does not help. “Photo opportunities and/or meetings with President [Bashar al-]Assad lead the Assad government to believe they’re part of the mainstream of the international community,” Bush said. He argued that Syria is a state sponsor of terrorism, has done nothing to prevent foreign fighters from entering Iraq and destabilizes democracy in Lebanon. |
