Byrd discharged from hospital
Posted: 03/01/08 09:25 AM [ET]

Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.) was discharged Friday from Walter Reed Army Medical Center after being hospitalized for three nights.

The 90-year-old Byrd was admitted to the hospital Tuesday after he fell the prior night at his Virginia home and complained of back pains. Byrd, the longest serving senator in American history and third in the line of succession to the presidency, was kept at the hospital for observation, but suffered no broken bones.

"I am pleased to report that Senator Byrd left the roost of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center this afternoon and is resting comfortably at his home," said Jesse Jacobs, his spokesman. "He looks forward to resuming his perch atop Capitol Hill next week with his watchful eagle eye."
