Clintons release tax records
Posted: 04/04/08 04:23 PM [ET]
Former President Bill and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) released their tax records Friday after weeks of enduring questions about the couple’s transparency from both the media and Sen. Barack Obama's (D-Ill.) campaign.

Jay Carson, a Clinton spokesman, said in a statement the records will show the Clintons have paid more than $33 million in taxes and given more than $10 million to charities over the past eight years.

The records will include information about the couple’s taxes from 2000 to 2006 and some information about 2007.

“The Clintons have now made public 30 years of tax returns, a record matched by few people in public service,” Carson said. “None of Hillary Clinton's presidential opponents have revealed anything close to this amount of personal financial information.”

The Clinton campaign highlighted several numbers in a release, including Sen. Clinton’s Senate salary and what the couple has made from their book sales.

Since joining the Senate, Clinton has made more than $1 million in salary. The former president’s pension has earned him more than $1.2 million, and he has made almost $52 million giving speeches since his presidency.

Sen. Clinton’s book sales have amassed almost $10.5 million, while the former president’s have come out to almost $30 million.
