Court delays Renzi trial
Posted: 04/08/08 03:14 PM [ET]

A federal court has agreed to push back the trial of Rep. Rick Renzi (Ariz.) until Oct. 14, according to court documents.

The lawmaker’s lawyers had asked for a delay of the trial, which was scheduled to begin at the end of this month.

In February, Renzi was indicted on 35 counts, including conspiracy, extortion, money-laundering and wire fraud. The three-term congressman is accused of having used his influence as a lawmaker to orchestrate a land swap so that he and an associate would benefit.
