Craig regrets guilty plea involving restroom incident |

Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) Monday evening confirmed his guilty plea to a charge of disorderly conduct stemming from an incident in a men’s public restroom and said he now regrets the decision. The arrest occurred on June 11 at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport as part of a police sting operation investigating lewd conduct in the airport restroom, and on August 8 the senator pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge in Hennepin County District Court, paid $500 in fines and fees, and agreed to one year of probation, according to Roll Call, which broke the story.“At the time of this incident, I complained to the police that they were misconstruing my actions,” Craig said in a statement released Monday evening. “I was not involved in any inappropriate conduct. I should have had the advice of counsel in resolving this matter. In hindsight, I should not have pled guilty. I was trying to handle this matter myself quickly and expeditiously." |
