DCCC prepares candidates to deal with Freedom’s Watch
Posted: 02/26/08 07:55 PM [ET]

Several top Democratic candidates are in town this week for a strategy session hosted by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC).

The meetings, held Tuesday and Wednesday, are aimed at preparing candidates to deal with charges leveled by 527 groups such as Freedom’s Watch, which promises to spend a large amount of money helping Republican candidates in 2008. In particular, candidates will be taught how to respond rapidly to any attacks.

Among those expected to take part are Jim Himes, who faces Rep. Christopher Shays (R-Conn.); Betsy Markey, who is running against Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-Colo.); Joe Garcia, who recently entered the race against Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.); and Jill Morgenthaler and Dan Seals, who are running against a pair of Illinois GOPers.

Democrats Darcy Burner and Anne Barth are also expected to attend in preparation for match-ups with Reps. Dave Reichert (R-Wash.) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.).
