Giuliani camp hails Bay State move to Feb. 5
Posted: 11/27/07 03:57 PM [ET]
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s (R) campaign, apparently hoping to draw attention to Massachusetts Republicans who aren’t fans of former Gov. Mitt Romney, praised the state’s decision to move its primary to Feb. 5.

In a statement on Giuliani’s behalf, former Massachusetts Gov. Paul Cellucci (R) said Giuliani “has a great shot at winning Massachusetts on Feb. 5th and in the general.”

“Bay State Republicans know Rudy is the only experienced candidate in the race who doesn’t just talk about getting results, but has actually achieved them,” Cellucci said.

The Giuliani campaign has sought to portray Romney as less than heroic in the eyes of Massachusetts Republicans, and in recent days the former mayor’s campaign has highlighted a number of Bay State GOPers who are endorsing Giuliani instead of Romney.

Romney continues to enjoy the support of several Massachusetts Republicans. The Romney campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

Current Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick (D) on Monday signed the legislation moving the primary from March 4 to Feb. 5. The state became the 22nd to move to Super Duper Tuesday, joining delegate-rich states like California, New York, New Jersey and Illinois.
