The campaign of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) unveiled its first television ad Wednesday and said the spot, which touts Giuliani’s experience, will begin airing in New Hampshire Thursday. In the ad, Giuliani talks about the success he has had in turning around New York City from a crime-ridden metropolis that was the “welfare capital of the world” to a safe city in which people have a hopeful outlook for the future. Surprisingly, the spot does not reference the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the city. Giuliani noted that New York City was once called “unmanageable, ungovernable” but that it was referred to, at the end of his tenure, “as the best example of conservative government in the country.” Alluding to concerns many conservatives have with Giuliani’s stances on abortion and gay rights, the former mayor says that when the American people look at him, “they’re not going to find perfection, but they’re going to find somebody who has dealt with crisis almost on a regular basis and has had results.” |
