GOP leaders want Pelosi to cut recess short
Posted: 04/09/07 11:19 AM [ET]
Senate and House Republican leaders Monday called on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to cut the House recess short and return to work on the Iraq supplemental spending bill.

“We are writing to urge you to call the House back into session immediately so that Congress can finish its work on the emergency legislation to fund the Global War on Terrorism,” the Republicans said in a letter to Pelosi. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) led the effort.

The GOP leaders said they were “especially troubled” that the House did not name conferees prior to recess. This precluded lawmakers from ironing out differences between the House and Senate bill while Congress is not in session.

“Our troops need funding, and they need it soon,” the Republicans told Pelosi. “Every day we don’t fund our troops is a day their ability to fight this war is weakened.”
