Greenpeace targets Dingell, Boucher
Posted: 06/20/07 07:59 PM [ET]
Frustrated at the lack of progress on global warming legislation, a Greenpeace representative told The Hill yesterday that Reps. John Dingell (D-Mich.) and Rick Boucher (D-Va.) should lose their energy committee and subcommittee posts.

Chris Miller, who handles global warming issues for the environmental group, said that the dispute that has continued this week over fuel efficiency standards and state efforts to impose tailpipe emissions standards demonstrates that Dingell and Boucher do not share Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) goal of passing tough global warming legislation.

“It’s clear this is a train wreck waiting to happen,” Miller said.

Dingell is the chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee; Boucher is the chairman of the Energy and Commerce Energy and Air Quality subcommittee.

The two have held several hearings on how to address climate change, but have yet to advance a bill that would curb greenhouse gas emissions significantly. They have, however, set a target for writing a global warming bill this fall.
