Kennedy released from hospital
Posted: 06/09/08 11:25 AM [ET]
Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) returns to his Cape Cod home Monday to recuperate from surgery on a cancerous brain tumor.

According to a statement released by his office, Kennedy will continue to recuperate at home before the next phase of his treatment. Kennedy, who was diagnosed with the tumor last month, underwent “successful” brain surgery last week at Duke University hospital, his doctors said last week.

He is thankful for the extraordinary care of the doctors and nurses at Duke, and also for the continued prayers and well wishes from the people of Massachusetts and all over the country,” his office said in a Monday statement.

The office said there will be no regular updates on his daily treatment plans in the interest of privacy. Kennedy’s doctors have said in the past that the typical treatment is various forms of radiation and chemotherapy.

Dr. Allan H. Friedman of Duke University Medical Center said Kennedy is making an “excellent recovery,” adding that the senator will “continue his recuperation at home in Massachusetts under the supervision of the very capable doctors at the Massachusetts General Hospital.”
