Knoblauch to be interviewed in steroids inquiry |

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has removed its subpoena for Chuck Knoblauch after the former baseball player agreed to be interviewed by the panel as part of its investigation into the use of performance-enhancing drugs by Major League Baseball players.
Knoblauch will now be interviewed by the committee on Friday. The former Minnesota Twins and New York Yankees second baseman was originally scheduled to be interviewed on Tuesday, but federal marshals could not locate him to serve him with the panel’s subpoena.
“We are pleased that Mr. Knoblauch has agreed to voluntarily participate in a transcribed interview or deposition with the Committee. As a result, the Committee is withdrawing the subpoena,” said the committee’s chairman, Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), and its ranking member, Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.), in a joint statement.
Knoblauch has allegedly used human growth hormone in the past, according to former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell’s (D-Maine) report about steroids and other performance-enhancing drug use by major league players.
Knoblauch and other players, such as pitchers Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte, have been invited to testify at the committee’s Feb. 13 hearing. |
