I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby will await his appeal in prison, according to a decision by the United States Court of Appeals Monday. In a unanimous decision, three appellate judges denied Libby’s motion for release. The ruling increases the pressure on President Bush to pardon Vice President Cheney’s former chief of staff. Several of Bush’s former aides, including ex-Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and former World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz, had written letters in support of Libby to Judge Reggie Walton prior to his sentencing last month. Walton ruled that Libby should serve 30 months in prison and be fined $250,000 for obstructing the probe into who leaked the identity of a CIA operative to reporters. |
