World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Chairman Vince McMahon incurred the anger of a congressional committee chairman Wednesday by skipping the panel’s hearing on performance-enhancing drugs in professional sports. Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.), chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection, said he was "extremely disappointed" that McMahon declined to appear at a hearing discussing the use of performance-enhancing drugs in professional sports.Rush cited WWE's problems with steroids, including the tragedy of Chris Benoit, a WWE performer who committed suicide last year after killing his wife and child. It is unclear whether steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs were connected to those killings. The Illinois Democrat promised to pursue the matter of performance-enhancing drugs further with or without the cooperation of McMahon. Several pro sports leaders did attend the hearing, including Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig, National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell and National Basketball Association Commissioner David Stern. Representatives of major players' unions also attended. The WWE had not responded to calls for comment by the time this story was published.
