Sen. Barack Obama completed his rebound in the Democratic nomination battle following losses last week in Texas and Ohio with the Mississippi primary Tuesday night. Shortly after 8 p.m ET, Obama was projected to win over Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), based on exit polls.
With his victory Tuesday night, Obama picked up wins in the only two contests between the delegate-rich states from last Tuesday and next month’s Pennsylvania primary.
Network exit polls showed that Obama again marched to victory on the strength of black voters, as he has done in other Southern states like South Carolina and Georgia.
The Clinton campaign did not completely cede the Magnolia State. Both the senator and former President Bill Clinton made campaign stops in the state in recent days.
Clinton successfully staved off her political demise with last week’s wins, but Obama continued to add to his delegate lead with Tuesday’s win in Mississippi and last Saturday’s victory in the Wyoming caucuses.
Pennsylvania’s April 22 primary remains the big prize on the calendar, and with six weeks to go the candidates have already turned their attention to the Keystone State for what analysts are predicting will be a bruising contest.
