House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey (D-Wis.) endorsed John Edwards (D) in the 2008 presidential race Tuesday, saying he believes Edwards is the candidate who will solve the problems facing Americans. “When John Edwards talks about tackling the problems that matter most to America’s working-class families — things like affordable healthcare, access to quality education and strengthening retirement security — I believe that he really means it,” Obey said in a statement. “That is the kind of man I want as my president.” The former North Carolina senator welcomed the endorsement from Obey, who wrote the Democrats’ Iraq supplemental budget that passed in the House last Friday. “Dave is a good friend and a true leader on the important issues facing our country — improving our schools, guaranteeing quality, affordable healthcare and protecting our natural resources,” Edwards said. “I am honored to have his support. Working together, we can change America with big ideas and bold solutions.” |
