Ohio Gov. Strickland endorses Clinton
Posted: 11/09/07 12:31 PM [ET]
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) scored a major swing-state endorsement Friday, announcing that Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland (D) is backing her campaign.

Strickland said Clinton is the “strongest” Democratic candidate in the field and the most able to carry the vital state of Ohio in a general election.

Clinton added: “Obviously, the road to the White House goes through Ohio.”

Strickland disputed speculation that he is angling for a spot on the ticket should Clinton win the Democratic nomination.

“I have no interest at all in the vice presidency,” Strickland said. “I love being the governor of Ohio.”

As she has before, Clinton said it is “premature” to be discussing a running mate, adding that she is “not taking anything for granted.”

“First things first,” she said.

Clinton said she is “honored” to have the governor’s support, and she invited him to join her at the Iowa Jefferson-Jackson Dinner Saturday night.

Clinton was asked on the call if her husband, former President Bill Clinton, had become a liability on the campaign trail after a number of remarks he has made in the past week have left analysts scratching their heads.

Clinton said she is “thrilled” to have the former president on the trail on her behalf, reminding voters of how much better their lives were when he was president.

“I am so happy to have his help on the campaign,” she said.
