Palin goes right at Biden |

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R), who entered Thursday night’s vice presidential debate as a relative unknown, appeared to be ready to take on veteran Delaware Sen. Joe Biden (D) aggressively. Palin seemed to be chomping at the bit as she battled Biden on the issues of taxes and healthcare, repeating many of GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain's talking points. While some of her statements have been debunked by independent fact-checking groups, the use of them underscored her aggressiveness. The Alaska governor entered the debate as a wildcard, the object of speculation for many who had never seen her debate and since her nomination had come to regard her as an unknown quantity. Palin repeatedly used the terms “maverick” and “reform,” and made a reference to "hockey moms" to portray herself as an average American compared to the longtime senator. Biden, early on, played nice, getting his dander up only when Palin misstated a Barack Obama position on healthcare. Restating McCain’s tax plan, Biden referred to it as “the ultimate bridge to nowhere,” a reference to the failed earmark planned for Palin’s state. |
