The House Administration Committee will hold a hearing next Wednesday to discuss a merger of the U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) and the Library of Congress police forces.
Legislation passed in 2003 required the agencies to merge, but structural differences have prevented their fusion, an aide to the House Administration panel said.
“I am eager to hear from the Capitol Police, the Library and their police officers about how to implement this merger. Congress passed a law providing for this merger over four years ago as a security measure,” House Administration Committee Chairman Robert Brady (D-Pa.) said. “The committee intends to act promptly and get this done. This merger is long overdue.”
The USCP, the House sergeant at arms, the Librarian of Congress and labor unions representing the separate police forces will testify at the hearing.
