‘Pop-up’ barricade halts truck
Posted: 06/13/07 07:10 PM [ET]
A “pop-up” barricade “effectively stopped” a commercial truck traveling eastbound on Independence Avenue yesterday morning after the driver failed to adhere to signs and police orders, according to U.S. Capitol Police spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Schneider.

“A commercial truck was traveling east along Independence Ave. from Washington Ave., SW into a truck restriction area,” Schneider wrote in an e-mail. “He failed to observe posted signs and officers’ attempts to stop him. [A] barricade was deployed on Independence Ave., just east of Washington Ave., SW.”

The USCP deploys pop-up barricades when it is necessary to stop vehicles. The barricade was successful, Schneider said. The driver was not arrested and sustained no injuries. The truck was towed away. The incident occurred before 7 a.m.
