REP. CATHY MCMORRIS RODGERS EXPECTED TO BRING BABY TO FLOOR |

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) was expected to come to the House floor last night with her newborn son, Cole, and vote for the first time since giving birth on April 29.
Cole was recently diagnosed with Down syndrome. Asked why the congresswoman brought the child to the floor, her spokeswoman, Jill Strait, said, “I think people will be excited to see him.”
McMorris Rodgers plans to travel with Cole back and forth between D.C. and Washington state. Throughout the month of June, McMorris Rodgers will return to Congress part-time for votes. “It’s one day at a time, but they are very excited to be parents and to have Cole home,” said Strait.
In a letter she wrote to friends and supporters, the congresswoman discussed her son’s condition: “This news has been difficult to get our arms around, like every parent, we have hopes and dreams for our children. Although initially stunned, we are embracing our son and preparing for what may [lie] ahead.” |
