Staffer sends campaign e-mail from Hill account
Posted: 05/27/08 06:37 PM [ET]

Rep. Dennis Moore’s (D-Kan.) chief of staff apparently violated House rules last week by circulating a campaign-related job posting from his House e-mail account.

Howard Bauleke circulated a posting for jobs with the Kansas Coordinated Campaign, an election-year organization initiative run by the Kansas Democratic Party. Rules prohibit the use of House resources for campaign purposes.

“This raises questions as to what other activities are taking place in congressman Dennis Moore’s office on the taxpayer’s dime,” National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) spokesman Ken Spain told The Hill.

Moore spokeswoman Rebecca Black said the e-mail was probably an oversight. Bauleke sends non-campaign-related job postings from his House account frequently, Black said, estimating that Bauleke sends five or six job postings a day to a list of several hundred Hill staffers.

“I’m sure that it just went out with the rest of the job search stuff,” Black stated.

The posting called for field organizers to work for the Kansas Democratic Party, and specifically mentioned Moore’s reelection bid, along with Rep. Nancy Boyda’s (D-Kan.), as hotly contested races.

The NRCC is targeting Moore and Boyda this election cycle.
