Demand for smoking ban at National Democratic Club
Posted: 03/13/07 01:58 PM [ET]
The Getrude Stein Democratic Club, an association of gay and lesbian Democrats, late Monday voted to call on the National Democratic Club (NDC) to ban smoking. The NDC has been widely criticized for seeking an exemption from a new Washington, D.C., smoking ban. The Stein Club voted to call on the NDC "to withdraw its application for an exemption" and to "prohibit smoking inside the club," citing health concerns for members and staff. In addition, the Stein Club also "calls on the D.C. Democratic State Committee to ... not sponsor, co-sponsor or send a representative to any indoor venue that permits smoking, including the National Democratic Club." Christine Hilty, the general manager of the NDC, said she had no knowledge of the resolution and had no comment on the issue.
