U.S. to lift sanctions against North Korea |

Following North Korea’s disclosure of its nuclear programs, President Bush said Thursday that the U.S. will lift some trade sanctions against the country and that the U.S. will seek to remove the nation from a list of state sponsors of terror. The White House hailed the development as “an important step” in the ongoing six party talks between the U.S., North Korea, South Korea, China, Japan and Russia. In addition to the declaration of its nuclear activities, North Korea also vowed to disable its nuclear facilities and to destroy a key facility this week. However, in a statement, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said there is “still more work to be done in order for North Korea to end its isolation.” The U.S. wants the regime to “dismantle all of its nuclear facilities, give up its separated plutonium, and resolve outstanding questions on its highly enriched uranium and proliferation activities.” |
