Virginia special election set for Dec. 11
Posted: 10/24/07 07:13 PM [ET]
The special election in Virginia’s 1st district will be held Dec. 11, Gov. Tim Kaine (D) announced Tuesday.

The seat became vacant earlier this month when Rep. Jo Ann Davis (R) died following a battle with breast cancer.

Davis’s husband, Chuck Davis, is one of the GOP candidates running in the special election. Others include: former state Del. Dick Black, state Del. Rob Wittman, businessman Paul Jost, conservative activist David Caprara and former Loudoun County Del. Sherwood Bowditch.

The election will use paper ballots because voting machines aren’t available so soon after the November elections and they are needed to train poll workers for the February presidential primary.

The parties will choose their nominees in advance of the special election.
