Vitter won’t testify in D.C. Madam case
Posted: 04/14/08 03:11 PM [ET]
An attorney for the “D.C. Madam” said he will not call Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) to the witness stand in the criminal trial of an upscale escort service accused of prostitution.

The attorney, Preston Burton, said he would rest his case Monday without calling Vitter to testify about his involvement in the escort service run by Deborah Palfrey, the woman known as the D.C. Madam, The Associated Press reported.

In July, Vitter’s number was among those listed in phone records made public by Palfrey, and the lawmaker reacted by apologizing for what he called “a very serious sin.” Last week, Burton listed Vitter as a potential witness.

Palfrey has said she was running a high-end erotic fantasy service, not a business providing illegal sex.
