Web users flock to Clinton’s site for “Sopranos” spoof
Posted: 06/20/07 02:35 PM [ET]
A video featuring Democratic presidential front-runner Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) and former President Clinton in a spoof of HBO’s “The Sopranos” has brought Web traffic on her campaign site to new heights.

The site has registered more than 500,000 hits, breaking the record number reached the day Clinton formally announced her candidacy.

“Hillary has charted a fresh course online, using the Internet in creative ways to engage people and bring new voters into the process,” the Clinton campaign’s Internet director, Peter Daou, said.

The video spoofs the series finale of HBO’s hit drama. In it, Sen. Clinton and her husband discuss the progress of the campaign over dinner.

Originally, the clip was produced to announce the winner of Clinton’s campaign theme song contest. However, the video has taken on a life of its own, generating more interest than the contest itself.

The campaign said 200,000 votes were cast online and Clinton supporters picked Celine Dion’s “You and I” as the theme song.
