Whitehead and Broun face off for Norwood’s seat |

The special-election runoff to replace Rep. Charles Norwood (R) will be held today in Georgia’s 10th congressional district, where Republicans Jim Whitehead and Paul Broun are vying to replace the late congressman.
Whitehead has been heavily favored throughout the campaign and remains so today. He won 44 percent of the vote in the 10-candidate field last month and has the backing of many of Norwood’s people.
Broun edged a Democrat to make the final pairing, taking 21 percent of the vote. He has spent $200,000 of his own money on his campaign, adding $80,000 as recently as last week.
Broun’s chances could depend on how many left-leaning voters in the Athens area will vote for him because of his proximity to them. Whitehead is from Augusta, and the contest has long been seen as an Augusta-versus-Athens battle.
Norwood died in February after battling cancer and lung disease.
