Breitbart's Washington political editor said on Saturday the return of Stephen Bannon is like a captain coming back to a pirate ship after a year away.

“We’ve been a pirate ship without a captain for a year,” Matthew Boyle said on Breitbart's Sirius XM show, adding, “We’re thrilled to have our captain back.”

Boyle's comments come a day after it was announced that Bannon was leaving the White House and returning to Breitbart as executive chairman.

“We’re planning a lot of aggressive expansion and much more aggressive reporting than we’ve already been doing,” Boyle said of plans following Bannon's return.

Bannon, who served as President Trump's chief strategist, also expressed excitement about his return to the far right publication saying he has his hands back on his weapons.

"Someone said, ‘it’s Bannon the Barbarian.’ I am definitely going to crush the opposition. There’s no doubt. I built a f------ machine at Breitbart. And now I’m about to go back, knowing what I know, and we’re about to rev that machine up. And rev it up we will do," he told the Weekly Standard on Friday.

Bannon also said he would continue to push his agenda for the president.

“If there’s any confusion out there, let me clear it up: I’m leaving the White House and going to war for Trump against his opponents — on Capitol Hill, in the media and in corporate America,” he told Bloomberg.

The president also praised Bannon on Twitter, calling him "tough and smart."
