Meet the lawmaker
Posted: 11/22/05 12:00 AM [ET]

If you were stuck on a desert island, which lawmaker would you want to be stuck with?
Oh, God, I don’t know. I’m on a desert island; I live with three members of Congress. It’s the worst. [Miller explained that he lives with Sens. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Rep. Bill Delahunt (D-Mass.).] I probably wouldn’t choose any of them.

What is the best and worst part of being in Congress?
Best:
I don’t have any creative brain on right now. The job. It’s a good job.
Worst: Being in Washington. I’d rather be in California.

Finish this sentence: My favorite place in the whole world is …
The high country in Yosemite National Park.

Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.)
Time in Congress: 31 years
Significant other: Wife Cynthia
Residence: Richmond, Calif.

What is the worst job you’ve ever had?
Cleaning out oil tanks in an oil refinery in 100-degree weather in California.

What is your least favorite household chore?
I do them all — I do windows; I do dishes — and I do them all with a smile. I’m the kind of guy you want around the house. Just ask my wife and roommates.

Do you believe in UFOs?
Only in the one’s that I’ve seen. Most of them come from the expeditionary force from Tork. I’ve found them to be easily identifiable. I think with more seniority you’ll see more UFOs.

What is your favorite political TV show?
“The Simpsons.”

Is that political?
Sure. It deals with corporate corruption, difficult-to-handle children, community, family life in America. “The Daily Show” would be second.
